Completed January 2015.
The tunnel and railway bridge form the connection between the old, medieval part of the historic city and an industrial redevelopment area. These two urban sectors had to be better interconnected to stimulate the flow of people. The passway was perceived as a desolate, dreary area. The challenge was to create an open, inviting entry to the orher side.
This is achieved by a dynamic lighting concept. The base colour follows the persons walking or biking by. Luring trespassers to pass through the tunnel. Lighting the curved ceiling creates the impression of a much higher opening by the reflection of the water.
